Reconciliation Action Plan

We are proud to introduce Connected Libraries’ (CCL) Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) 2022.

CCL affirmed our commitment to reconciliation in 2017 with the formation of a dedicated working group to begin to understand the ways we could impact, commit to and advance reconciliation with in our sphere of influence.

Since then, we have been on a journey to supporting and working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples through our key activities – including the development of library collections, programs and events, employment pathways and library spaces.

This is the first CCL RAP to reach endorsement, and we are grateful to Reconciliation Australia for helping us on our journey. Libraries play an important role in connecting communities, supporting lifelong learning, and promoting a sense of belonging.

Through these channels we continue to work as a whole organisation on our Reconciliation journey.

Statement of Reconciliation

Connected Libraries acknowledges the Bunurong and Boonwurrung peoples as the traditional custodians of the land on which we operate.

We pay our respects to their elders past and present, and acknowledge the rich culture of story, literacy and knowledge throughout this region.

Connected Libraries recognise Indigenous Australian people as the first people of this continent, and understand that the history and knowledge developed over many thousands of years by Indigenous Australian people was severely disrupted by colonisation.

Colonisation has contributed to: the dispossession of Indigenous peoples from their lands; the dispersal and relocation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities; the disruption of culture, spirituality, lore, custom and languages; the removals of children from families; and sustained impact on the socio-economic well-being of our first peoples.

We must recognise what has happened in the past in order to build a positive future for our whole community.

By working towards reconciliation and taking practical steps we will grow stronger together.
